I was expecting something akin to the interesting and highly musical albums by Burial, which was the wrong way to approach this.
This is a compilation of rhythm-led dancefloor tunes and as such is pretty mindless. The sequencing isn't particularly clever either - mostly pretty random. No build. It doesn't help that the opening track and a number of others are of such incredible banality that I hated this album from the first play and only like it a little more since then. Of the Kicks series I can't name a more artless and dumb compilation except perhaps the early headbangers.
