Not as good as I had hoped for,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Samsung HW-F450/EN 2.1 Soundbar with Subwoofer (280 Watt, SoundShare, Bluetooth) (Electronics)
I got this to replace an ageing 3.1 Panasonic system - mainly so that I don't have cables all over the place.
It's certainly a big improvement over the standard TV speakers, but for me, it lacks midrange.
Maybe it's due to the fact that I run it at reasonably low levels (<volume 16) as anything higher will annoy the neighbours, it's just missing the richness in vocals that I was hoping for.
The sub is nice, though, and is great when watching films.
I just wish that you could EQ it, rather than simply control the Subwoofer level. The pre-sets are all a bit lacking, and I just turn off the 3D sound as it doesn't really add anything.
The Bluetooth function is great, and pairing up devices is quick and easy.
The biggest problem for me though, is that - when paired with a Samsung UE40EH5300 using an Optical (for sound) and HDMI (for ANYNET+, cec) - you can either:
Power on both the TV and Soundbar using the TV remote, but not control the volume of the Soundbar using the TV remote (tv has to go to 0 volume, and use Soundbar remote for volume control) this is with Anynet disabled and Auto Power set to On.
Control the volume of the Soundbar using the TV remote, power off both devices using the Power button on the TV remote, but lose the ability to power on both devices with the TV remote. Anynet enabled, Auto Power set to Off.
This is incredibly frustrating - the only solution that works for me is the second, so the Soundbar just stays on the whole time. I wanted to avoid having several remotes, and the Samsung helpline (in the UK) told me that one remote would work for both devices.
After looking into it, this is by design(!) which is absurd, as I want to use this to permanently replace my TV speakers.
Overall I'm disappointed really... not a great sound, and limited functionality bearing in mind that both devices are Samsung!
Edit: I do have to use the Soundbar remote to turn it on, as after a period of inactivity (leaving it overnight) it turns itself off. Really annoying needing 2 remotes!
