Only 7 seconds difference for a different rating...,
This review is from: The Woman in Black [DVD] (DVD)
I had been reading the other reviews and realised that THIS version of the DVD is a 'cut down' version to gain a 12 certificate instead of a 15. If you want the 'full' version you can go to the German version of Amazon (.de on the end instead of .co.uk), buy a copy from there and watch it in the ENGLISH option through the menus with no problems. However - what do you gain for all this? Just 7 seconds of extra footage in two minor scene changes.
The website "movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=6074962 (just stick a [...] on the front) gives you a break down of the difference and you can decide for yourself if it is worth getting the other version. The differences are minor details in two scenes - more graphic detail with the suicide and the burning child takes a step forward. That is it.
Personally it isn't worth the hassle - I am going to buy the UK version because the minor differences to two scenes isn't worth it. If this affected the storyline I would consider the extra effort of buying from Germany.
However this is a review of the film so I should probably talk about it. I loved it. I have only seen the UK DVD version and I thought it was amazing. I loved the classic subtle thrills, the careful details and the effort it clearly took to produce. You can tell it was made with love and not just rushed out for profit - the production seemed to really care about the small details and put in the extra effort to get everything right.
I am normally not a horror movie person, I do enjoy films like The Ring and prefer my thrillers to be more mind benders than rushing about with lots of blood. Some reviewers found the film boring, but I guess they are used to a different kind of scare.
If you appreciate subtle details, an excellent atmosphere and a slow build up with a few jump scares but very little blood and guts then this film is worth trying.

The 7 seconds only appertain to visual cuts, the sound alteration differences are many. However, if that is of no consequence to yourself then I personally don't see a problem with buying the British cut. I would say, though, that the suicide scene is vastly different in the uncut form, very much so.
Just for anyone reading who is put off by ordering from Amazon.de, I can honestly say it really isn't hassle at all, same process and delivery is only a few days more than you get from Brit Amazon.
