Running out of ideas,
This review is from: Quantum of Solace (Audio CD)
After scoring 5 Bond films in a row the redoubtable David Arnold seems to be running out of ideas for "Quantum of solace" Now Arnold is a talented composer and he has harnessed the spirit of John Barry quite admirably on all his Bond scores to date but one can feel fatigue setting in here. The title track (which Arnold didn't have much to do with) by Jack white and Alica Keys goes down as the worst Bond song ever ! Truly awful, what a bizarre pairing for a Bond song and it sounds limp, dull and boring. Arnold definitely should have been involved with the title song as both his Bond songs for "The world is not enough" performed by Garbage and the song which featured at the end of "Tomorrow never dies" Surrender by KD Lang were both excellent.
The score itself is ok, serviceable and does have one or two flourishes here and there but by the time you get to the end you'll be itching to dig out that old "OHMSS" or "Living Daylights" score by John Barry.
Maybe David Arnold needs a break to recharge his batteries. I like Arnolds work but this is his worst Bond score yet.
