Really spectacular trilogy,

I really enjoyed this trilogy. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised that Donaldsons' prose was so improved - perhaps because he was writing outside his genre, as the introduction to the book explains.
The depth of characters, plot and atmosphere make this book a pleasure to read - and totally engrossing. There is a hint of James Ellroy at times as well.
I would highly recommend it. Donaldson is an expert at creating a fictional environment - but this one feels 'just right', much easy to become comfortable with than the universes of the Gap series, or Thomas Covenant, which whilst fascinating, were more imprenetrable. Five stars!
