They deserved better,
This review is from: Red Tails [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
The Tuskegee airmen deserved their story to be told in a far far better way than this. The story had all the ingredients for a brilliant film with state of the art CGI, yet it managed to miss by an incredible margin.
First the good news. The image and sound quality of the blu-ray is first class. Easy at times to forget that the majority of the aeriel scenes were CGI. But some of the maneuvers by the fighters were best left in a Sar Wars film, in other words, impossible. Then the script, if you can call it such, must have been found in the waste bin from a Dick Dastardly cartoon episode. The producers, it seems, were unable to have the confidence to think that the viewer would be able to ascertain that Germans were actually speaking, well German. Every time a German character spoke the sub titles were prefixed [in German]. It is here that the script falls into cartoon character territory. (Spoiler Alert) The German squadron leader comes out with lines such as: [in German] 'Show no mercy' and [in German] 'Die you stupid African'.
The lines that some of the Tuskegee airmen were asked to speak were no better. The script writers had better retreat to the House of Mouse.
A real letdown for the history of black American servicemen, it could have and should have been so much better. If you want to see what is probably the best film of the story of black American soldiers then look no further then the excellent Civil War drama 'Glory'.

K. Grunwald says:
Where on earth do you folk get the idea that movies like this will be historically accurate??
Surely by now you know that these movies are not for educational purposes they are solely to entertain thus filling the makers coffers.
Let this be a lesson to you mate.
