This review is from: Alberto Giacometti: Works, Writings and Interviews (Essentials Poligrafa) (Hardcover)
I've read quite a few books about Alberto Giacometti(James Lord's biography, Plausible Portraits and A Giacometti Portrait, In Giacometti's Studio by Michael Peppiatt and Giacometti by Yves Bonnefoy) I also have the arte editions DVD with two French documentaries on it. Knowing about Giacometti's life and work meant that most of the information in this book was known to me already, I only bought the book as it's title led me to believe that it focussed on Giacometti's personal writings and interviews, it doesn't. The bulk of the book is the standard biography and notes on his work and it has only two interviews and just one letter, calling a book 'Works, Writings and Interviews' is a little misleading when it contains just one letter(and not a very good one at that), the interviews are interesting but not really worth the price of the book on their own. The photographs in the book are good but again nothing that hasn't been seen in other books before. This book might be a decent introduction to anyone looking to learn about Giacometti but if you have read other books on the artist and his life/work you may be dissapointed by it.
