Articulate lifestyle advice,
This review is from: The Consolations of Philosophy (Paperback)
As mentioned by others, this book is not philosophy as such, or at least not what philosophy is as taught in universities. Rather, this is lifestyle advice as given by six philosophers (Socrates, Epicurus, Seneca, De Montaigne, Schopenhauer and Nietzsche), all well formulated by De Botton, with plenty of illustrations to put you in the frame of the analogies he draws.
This is like agony aunt advice but with a more intellectual seal of approval, and it will certainly make you sound more well read than you actually are, when you say you feel money is not the goal of life because you agree with Epicurus, or that hard toil is necessary for success, as Nietzsche had declared in Human All Too Human.
