This review is from: The Computer Game Design Course: Principles, Practices and Techniques for the Aspiring Game Designer (Paperback)
This book is written by two games designers and a lecturer at the University of Central Lancashire. What is quite obvious is that the lecturer is probably behind the overall emphasis of this book as it serves as a great text book for gaming courses. It gives an overview of the processes of designing, the software, the processes and the pitching of a game concept. It looks wonderful as its colour throughout with lots of great examples, lots of links and jumping off points and its very easy to read too.
It goes into some techniques on the modelling side although don't think this will help you learn Maya, 3DS Max etc as its a brief overview and those programs are huge. However, it will help someone entering the industry understand the different aspects and phases of computer game design and development.
Its a beautiful book that works best as a text book for a gaming course though and if its on your book list then it will help you through quite a few of your essays and assignments.
