A must read for all,
This review is from: The Pain of Being Human (Paperback)
Asks questions that everyone at some point in their lives will (or should) ask - How do you reconcile the natural urge to "shield" ourselves from the occurence of deeply hurtful events that are inevitable wherever you find intimate relationships with the call to give of ourselves, and to impact the world around us in a positive way?
Kennedy answers the question with a paradoxical but yet profoundly true answer: Learn to live with, yes, even "cherish" the pain as a sign that we are indeed spirtually and emotionally alive and healthy. Moreso, when approached this way, the pain itself takes on a redeeming/healing value for ourselves and for others.
This book is accessible to Christian and non-Christian alike, but any Christian will recognise in this interesting psychological analysis, the call of Christ for the "wheat grain [to fall] to the ground and die, otherwise it cannot bear much fruit... for whoever would save his life, will lose it, but whoever loses his life for..the sake of the gospel will keep it"
