Check your tripod mounting before you buy.,
This review is from: Joby Gorillapod Original - Black (Electronics)
This doesn't really work unless your camera has its a tripod mounting in the centre. Using it with a Panasonic DMC-TZ3, which is well within the specified maximum weight, tends to topple over because the mounting in the left hand corner.

Surely that isn't this product's fault, but is instead an issue with the camera? Have you suggested to Panasonic that they centralise their camera's tripod mounts?

I don't really see how that can be blamed on the camera manufacturer. There is no standard dictating tripod screws be centred, and I've come across plenty of cameras and A/V equipment over the past twenty years that have either had non-central mounts, or been much heavier on one side than the other; camcorders being the most obvious example. If anything, the Gorillapod manufacturer should have anticipated this during the R&D phase.

Actually I had the same problem as the original reviewer describes - I have a Panasonic LX5 which has a mount to the side - I expected the Gorillapod's bendy bits to be a stiff enough to deal with the camera's weight. But it can't. Disappointing.

I have this product for a very light Panasonic with an off-centre mount and a heavier Sony with a central mount. Mine are okay with this grip, I can see it would be a serious problem for a heavier Panasonic.
This is not the fault of the Gorillapod, but it is worthwhile information to have in a lower-star review (that people will read) because it will alert Panasonic owners, and other owners with off-centre mounts.
If you have a camera with an off-centre mount, especially if it is anything other than featherweight (mine is) then just get the Gorillapod SLR. It is slightly heavier, but it is good for cameras up to 800g so should easily compensate for the off-centre mount.
