An Underrated Performer,
This review is from: The Best Of (Audio CD)This is a fine collection of songs from an underrated performer. To be honest I was a little disappointed on my first playing of this cd,but it does grow on you if you give it a chance.
I was not familiar with many of these 16 tracks prior to purchase but grew to love them.Of course I had heard "Delta Lady" by Joe Cocker and the writers`version of it is nearly as good as Joe`s classic rendition.
Much of this cd contains Leon`s work from the early 70`s but it also has collaborations with Elton John ( If It Wasn`t For Bad )from 2010 and with Willie Nelson ( Heartbreak Hotel ) from 1979.
There is a Dylan cover ( It`s A Hard Rain`s A-Gonna Fall ), Tim Hardin`s " If I Were A Carpenter " and a wonderful medley from concert for Bangladesh ( Jumpin` Jack Flash/ Youngblood.)
Probably Leon`s best compositions are found on tracks 4,5,6&7 with "A Song For You," "Hummingbird," "Tightrope," and the aforementioned "Delta Lady." Also check out "This Masquerade" which the Carpenters covered so brilliantly.
So all in all a great selection of 16 songs lasting 66 minutes and I should also mention what a great sound quality this is as well.
