Alexander Pope would be doing this if he was born in our rubbish times!!!,
This review is from: Glo Butterfly's Magic (Glo friends) (Hardcover)Wow, we have a poet in our midst, in June Woodman!
I must say, reading a children's book is hard graft. My 2 year old likes them, but for me, they are a hard slog. Badly written English is not what we want to flail our children with. All parents can empathise, I hope. I suppose that, like in any industry, mediocrity rises up to the top. Those Mr Men books can be written by anyone! Kids have zero critical faculties too and so any drek can be easily passed off as a children's tome.
I am writing this review to say that `WOW', this June Woodman can bloody rhyme! I am not trying to pass myself off as one of those post-modern idiots who see art in a log of poop. I know my English.
I am a fan of Alexandra Pope. Pope was probably the best rhyme grinder of the English language. Just go and compare Pope's Iliad with the many modern versions and you will see what I mean. The present poet laureate is rubbish too, when compared to the immortals, because he got his job through the usual way of knowing the right people and damn look. This is the way of our modern world.
Who is this June Woodman and why is she not recognised? The Glow books are written by a brilliant mind. Like Pope, Woodman can rhyme and tell a story, this is hard.
I wonder if she died resentful and spiteful. There are probably people better than Shakespeare and Mozart out there who never made it too.
