This review is from: Xbox 360 Elite Console (120 GB Hard Drive) (Console)The chipset issue has been raised here so I thought I'd provide my account. I sent two emails to Amazon. They were unable to confirm what they are selling. I visited my local Game store on New Years Day, they were aware of the issue and confirmed the Elite they are selling is the new version. So I paid £20 more than Amazon but at least I know I've bought the cooler, quieter model. I have experienced my friends old premium 360 and in my view the sound and vented air temperature are noticeably different. I'm glad I took the trouble to get the newer model. I just find it sad that Amazon couldn't go the extra mile and just look at the product and confirm a simple question.
3 weeks after purchase and fairly light use, I received 3 red ring errors within about 30 mins. Despite being the new model it seems the hardware still needs further work. Thankfully Game have agreed to swap it at the weekend.

I agree about Amazon's lack of knowledge - this is with most items too. I once asked a question about a CD, whether it was a digi-pack or a standard case, to which they replied they didn't know. Considering theirs a massive warehouse somewhere around here, oh wait... just answered my own question - the warehouse is probably no where near the communications centre! Oh well lol

God man! That must have sucked ass big time. You go through all that trouble and it still RODs on you.
Today is 15th of December and I see they have released Jasper chipsets which need only a 150W PSU
So even if this can't prevent further RODs it'll at least cost you less on your electric bill.
£200 Eites to come 2009. Isn't it just awesome at the rate technology grows. I buy games but no console yet.
Games are reliable and well rated. Xbox in 2009 to end all faults, I'll have to wait and see.

i agree with gareth but i think the new jasper chipsets aren't due in the UK till around march time so a bit of a wait now that my elite packed in last week. i can get the falcon for £200 but not sure if i should wait for the new 1 with the current prices so low
