Solid as ever,
This review is from: Sony Official PlayStation 2 DualShock 2 Controller (PS2) (Video Game)
Again Sony ensure that the official PS2 products are the way to go for their machine.
Its not a huge jump in technology over the old PSOne controllers, the vibration function is still there as are the two analogue controllers, there is the bonus of analogue sensitivity in the main buttons on the controller (great for games such as Gran Turismo which you can use to simulate light and heavy pedal useage for example) and its still got the most buttons out of the 'big three'. Useful if you've got a bit of a button heavy game to play like GTA:San Andreas where looking, aiming, strafing, shooting, running functions never get confused because of this.
After playing Halo on the Xbox I realised how inept the rather flappy analogue sticks were, they're not exactly precise. Not such a crime for a driving game, but a bit of an irritant if you're trying to delicately aim in an FPS. Its not a crime but it has been proven that other platforms have got this nailed just a little bit better.
The actual feel of the pad is a delight. Play with an Xbox Controller S for a while and you'll get slightly crampy hands and generally irritable at the location of the black/white buttons ... here, Sony have obviously chucked alot of money into R&D and have come up with THE most comfortable controller. Every button is in the right place and you never get tired of holding the thing.
It'll be interesting to see how the next Gen machines controllers look, its about time to see a new revolution. The dual shock is fantastic but I think its about time for a new generation to come in and wow us all.
Also remember, some PS2 games are NOT compatible with the PSOne controllers. They look the same but they are not the same.
