Staying strong and stronger than that,
This review is from: Welcome Home Armagedon (Audio CD)
Now I take issue with all of the 'return to form' stuff flying about because, in my opinion, Funeral have been consistently awesome since 'Casually...', with 'Tales...' being one of the best concept albums I've ever heard and 'Memory...' being almost on par with 'Hours' in terms of lyrics and impact.
However, all of that is irrelevant because this album is an absolute powerhouse of awesome! It really is an album for the ages! The singles do a terrific job of showing people what to expect from the album, an album which is a fantastic mix of heart-felt anthems and fist-bumping power tracks, beginning and ending on high notes with no slack in between. The beautiful lyrics on Sixteen, Owls and Medicate really stand out and the riffs and beats are hugely catchy on both the heavy and the soft tracks.
Funeral have a fantastic ability of writing music and lyrics which really tug at your heart strings; they feel personal and they have the ability to make you stop what you're doing, sit down and take in what you've just heard. They do all of this without coming across as pretentious or ridiculous. This shows real heart and ambition and it's what we all love about them!
In short: buy this album!
