I bought this product for my 2 children (aged 9 & 11) thinking that the swan-neck camera design would be good for positioning.

However, the camera turns out to be a bad choice for animation mainly because there is no way of overriding its automatic colour / light balancing capability. This means that if you introduce new bright or dark colours into a scene the overall balance will be changed - leading to flickering. Also, for most of the animations we've done so far a high-angle is not useful & so the swan-neck is redundant.

For animation, the camera is certainly not as good as Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 HD which my nephew has got and which has full manual control and a sharper image.

However, the Zu3D animation software which comes with the web cam is pretty good - providing all of the features required for basic stop-motion animation; including onion-skinning and sound editing. The main things it lacks are chroma-key (the ability to shoot against a "blue (or green) screen" and superimpose a replacement background image); and time-lapse (automatically taking a picture at preset intervals).
