An educational listening experience,
This review is from: Music To Watch The Girls Cry (Mixed By Andy Votel) (Audio CD)
This is the latest in the Stars On 33 series from the Fat City label/record store in Manchester. Andy Votel, boss of Twisted Nerve records follows on from Aim and Ralph Lawson with a mammoth lession in the wider world of everything funky and damn right weird. This CD has about 60 tracks mixed, cut and simply squeezed onto it which keeps the head nodding and the feet tapping due to Votel's tight beat mixing. Of course this mix has all the Brainfreeze type funky and soulful breaks, but also incorperates rock, folk, indian, prog rock, celtic weirdness and even an advert for a local Manchester curry house! There isn't a tracklisting and ideally this mix should be listened to all at once, but some parts do drag on, but apart from a few boring bits here and there this mix is up there with the DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist Brainfreeze and Product Placement mixes. So if you're after something different and a lession in worldwide head-nodding funkiness i'd suggest you buy this.
