FOR WALLANDER FANS,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Buried Alive ( Levande begravd (Live Burial) ) Beck 26 (DVD)
I read somewhere that if you liked Wallander, you'd like Beck. I did, and I do!
Buried Alive is, I believe, the last episode in the Swedish detective series that ran more or less concurrently with its more famous sibling, Wallander. Whereas the latter shot to international stardom when the BBC made its own version for the UK, Beck remained stranded in Sweden. That, perhaps, is the only reason why Beck has been left behind, since otherwise it is every bit as good as Wallander, as far as stories and acting go. The big difference is scenic. Whatever the merits of Stockholm, it is simply not nearly as photogenic as Ystad and other parts of Skana (southern Sweden) that feature so prominently in Wallander.
Buried Alive was a very good concluding episode of a long running series a lot of which I have seen, and certainly enjoyed. You can dip into any one of the 90 minute episodes at random, since they are more or less self contained, but I wouldn't, however, recommend a neophyte to start here, since there are certain elements in the story that refer to previous episodes. It is, nevertheless, just as good as any other - provided Wallander is your cup of tea, to begin with.
