Mayo is a lovable character and Eccles uses him with practised ease to produce 3 compelling crime fiction stories whilst giving us tantalising glimpses into Mayo's private life as a widower with a teenage daughter. He has some baggage but he's a dedicated policeman and here he sets out to solve three very different murders.
