I bought this novel out of curiosity as I'd always enjoyed Bonnie Greer's intelligent and elegant presence on arts and discussion shows on TV. I read widely in all genres, but I had to admit defeat with this one after reading about a third of the book. I found the style difficult - lots of incredibly long sentences, like Henry James to the power of 10, but lacking his expressiveness. The characters were uninvolving for me, the subject matter confusing, and I couldn't really understand what the book was trying to say. Maybe I should have persevered longer, but frankly I was just becoming bored. Disappointing - but that may be my fault rather than Bonnie's.
