This album is excellent, though the last few songs have 'filler' written on them. I was disappointed also with the first song - 'Embody The Invisible' sounds like a physical endurance game show theme. This was my first time listening to In Flames. But rapidly, things pick up. 'Ordinary Story''s fantastic combination of melodic verse and heavy chorus (it's done very well for once) make this track a joy to listen to. The piano break before the final refrain is quite chilling, whilst all the while through the song there is a measured mid-tempo. 'Scorn' hits your speakers like the falling pillars of an ancient city - again, wonderful hook. The title track, 'Colony' slows things down but retaining a glacial heaviness. 'Pallar Anders Visa' is a nice, melancholic acoustic break and another standout track. There is in all honesty little to fault in this album. It's melodic death - that is, it's got a melody but the vocals are still as aggressive. It's not an incredibly heavy album, nor is it particularly serene so this album could potentially convert several facets of metal fans.
I really enjoyed listening to this album - and so will you if you give it a chance.
