This review is from: Lord Of The Rings: Conquest (Xbox 360) (Video Game)
I love Lord of the Rings, Ive spent hours, no days watching and rewatching the films over the years, read the books and played the games.
However after such brilliant games as Return of the King and the two Battle for Middle Earth games, I found myself dissapointed with the end product. The gameplay whilst fun at first, grew old quickly and the campaign missions were far too short and generally lack replay value.
I could go on, but instead will give a list of an overall review of each catagory:
GAMEPLAY: Fun for a couple of hours, but after a time you'll find yourself only willing to use ranged attacks due to the computer warriors unerring ability to predict your every move and counter it with a block. The campaigns were far too short, and in general the difficulty curve is incredibly unbalenced, the game is at its hardest when you are defending Minas Tirith, and I found myself laughing in self-derision as failed to hold of the ridiculously powerful warrior orcs. 6.5/10
GRAPHICS: As good as expected, then again anything less would have been dissapointing on a console as good as the 360. 8/10
SOUND: The original score from the LOTR movies is used, and although some of the voice acting is poor (cough, cough, Gimli, cough, cough) it doesnt really have a detrimental effect on the game. 9/10
MULTIPLAYER: The offline mode is fine, although perhaps it would be better if campaign grunts were included in some way. X-box live is however a complete letdown. If youre not being sniped from across the map by an archer, youre being electrocuted by a mage. Very unbalenced. 4/10
OVERALL: This game had so much potential, but unfortunately EA has failed to deliver to the extent that I and many others had hoped. Not a bad game, but very average. 6/10
