A first-class British Army regimental history,

This review is from: Difficulties be Damned: The King's Regiment - A History of the City Regiment of Manchester and Liverpool (Hardcover)
I found this to be one of the most complex and successful regimental histories. the author has very successfully brought together the story of three distinuished regiments of foot, later to amalgamate as one. These are the 8th, 63rd and 96th Regiments which became the Liverpool and the Manchester Regiments and today are amalgamated as The King's Regiment. In WWI the two regiments raised a total of 87 separate battalions and Patrick Mileham has skilfully brought them all to life in this history. On through WWII, the war in Korea and the Malayan Emergency. The 16 page colour section, mainly from paintings in the regimental collection, themselves tell a distinguished story from 1685 to the present day. A thoroughly good read which I can recommend to all interested in the history of the army.
