Supernatural on the Eastern Front,
This review is from: First Squad [DVD] (DVD)
During the Second World War both the Germans and the Russians have been attempting to use the occult in order to gain the advantage. Nadya is a young girl with precognitive powers who is the last survivor of the Russian Special Forces unit known as First Squad. However, after getting caught in an enemy attack, Nadya is called upon to travel to the afterlife to contact her dead squad mates so that they can defeat the undead knights that the Nazis are attempting to summon.
This short Russian-Japanese anime is quite an entertaining film with an interesting premise, some nice animation and a reasonable English dub. The main problem with this film though is that it's far too short. At only fifty-seven minutes in length, there is little time to build the plot or to develop the characters enough and although it does make the best of a bad situation, the film could have been a lot better with a bit more time.
Overall this was interesting and enjoyable and is worth around four stars.
