This review is from: Etiquette and Espionage: Number 1 in series (Finishing School) (Kindle Edition)
The first book in the Finishing School series has a good premise, just it felt light-weight compared with the other Carriger books I've read. It can't just be that it's a YA book rather than for Adults, because I read a lot of YA and Children's books for pleasure and the best of them have a solid feel to them. It's almost as if she knows the world so well, she's skimming over all the depth I found so enjoyable in the Parasol Protectorate.
The appearance of younger versions of previous characters appears to make this a prequel to the Parasol Protectorate.
All things considered this is not a bad book. The plot romps along at high speed, with a lot of hanging questions ready to start the next book, which I look forward to with interest.
