Clean up time for what was to be john's last album...,
This review is from: Double Fantasy Stripped Down (Audio CD)
Y'know I still can't believe it's nearly 30 years since "Double Fantasy" was released, where has the time gone? Now here iam reviewing the re-issue to mark what
wouldve been Lennons 70th birthday.Well done to Yoko,Jack Douglas and their team in New York for re-mixing the album, stripping it down to it's bare bones and letting us hear with clarity one of Rock n Rolls greatest voices. It wasn't until i bought John's rock n roll album that i realised what a great voice he had (why oh why did he always smother that voice of his in reverb? never did get it!) Of course Yoko's
contibutions have also been stripped down as well, and whether you love or loathe her,her material on this record are amongst the strongest work she ever did with john,
bordering on the punk/new wave.
many memories are being triggered here;buying the album from Boots the chemist (yes in 1980 Boots did sell records) on the saturday before he died. Now here iam a lifetime later, older, maybe a little wiser and a father and a grandfather listening to this album with new ears as if it were a new album. It has been awhile since i heard this album, but this has got me fired to dig out my old battered vinyl copy from way back then, where ever it maybe. But then i could just play disc 2 in this set and reminice.
