The starting point for any investigation into corporate governance,

This review is from: Corporate Ownership and Control: British Business Transformed (Paperback)This superb piece of work should be the starting point for any serious study of corporate governance -- even though a fair amount of prior knowledge is assumed in that the reader is expected to have familiarity with some of the basic concepts of corporate ownership and control.
However, with that basic knowledge in hand, the structure of the book and the evidence used to support the arguments, produces an elegant exposition of the changes that have occurred over the past 150 years in the structure of ownership of British companies. The results often run counter to received wisdom.
Inevitably, counter-arguments might be produced or different interpretations of the evidence developed and unfortunately one or two silly typographical errors ('put chase' for 'purchase' and 'Financial Securities Agency') mar the text. Nor is the writing style completely fluent in places, with some multi-clausal sentences that should have been broken up by better editing. But this is a superb starting point for an advanced review of corporate governance failings and deserves the attention of every serious student of the subject, whatever their level of knowledge.
