A must have for the kitchen shelf,
This review is from: The British Larder: A Cookbook For All Seasons (Hardcover)
There are a lot of good cook books - but great ones are few and far between. The genre is greatly enhanced by the arrival of this staggering work. The format of the book is a collection of recipes for each month of the year focussing on the best British ingredients available in those months - strawberries in June, pumpkins in November. Keen gardeners who struggle to put seasonal gluts to good purpose might well find the book a Godsend. Personally, I find some of the recipes on the British Larder web-site a little tricky. The dishes chosen for the book seem more accessible and don't require lots of professional equipment to prepare. I have only tried one recipe so far but I found the descriptions clear and logical, and, was delighted with the outcome. Furthermore, there is a useful section on basic technique at the beginning - how to make stocks and such like. The photography is astonishingly good - all the more remarkable for the fact that it is all done by Madalene Bonvini-Hamel herself at The British Larder.
The perfect Xmas book for the amateur or professional foodie.
