....and it's great if that's up your street, which for me it most certainly is! It's also exciting and at times disturbing reading! I thought I was floundering for the first part of the book, due to the alternating plot threads. One follows the story in a normal forward moving fashion, whilst the other chapters go backwards into the character's past, revealing dark and disturbing secrets that explain his actions and thoughts in the other plot thread. You'll read to the end, utterly compelled by the disturbing character and events that Banks has dreamt up. You'll think you have it all worked out, and then Banks throws one more disturbing thing at you, just as if what went before wasn't enough to make you dislike the main character. But you'll still love him, and I loved this book.
