This review is from: The Secret in Their Eyes (Paperback)
You may have seen the film of this book one night late when the TV channels show all the best (that is, most perceptive) films. The film won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film in 2010.
If you have seen the film, and enjoyed it, thought the Oscar Jury's decision was well-made, don't be put off reading the book as well. There are marked differences in the two -- and good though the film was -- the book is far, far superior. This is an outstanding piece of writing: superb plot; superb writing style and (Americanisms aside) extremely well translated to give an effortless and flowing narrative.
Having seen the film will slightly diminish the outcome -- but only slightly. The impact of the ending is visceral -- not least because of the differences in the plot between book and film. Simply superb.
