1.0 out of 5 stars Forget the book, buy the cards!, 30 May 2005
This review is from: The Original Rider Waite Tarot Pack (Cards)
Buy the Rider Waite cards, by all means - they're classic and easy to learn from. (However, the re-coloured Universal Waite cards are even better - same images, much nicer colours. The Rider Waite cards contain dull, lifeless colours as they keep the colours used on the original cards in the early 1900s. The Universal Waite cards have EXACTLY the same images with colours which are easier on the eye, ie not like a damp day in Bognor)
Don't bother with this card and book pack though - the dated book by A E Waite is REALLY heavy going reading (unless you enjoy reading Victorian English - hard to read, dull and pompous with no life in it at all).
The way we read tarot now has moved on from the way Waite and the Golden Dawn used it then - check out Tarot For Your Self by Mary Greer for an excellent book on how to learn tarot - you will be pleased you did!

THE D HAMMER says:
True. These aren't the Original RW cards, they are a (badly) redrawn edition by an unknown artist from 1930
