The appeal of the story is not limited to young adult readers. I'm a sixty year old man and I liked it a lot. The characters and settings, and events are fully believable, and the voice of the narrator/protagonist Coo is true to that of a perceptive and troubled adolescent girl. A deep and emotionally powerful book that peels back the layers of the heart, and what it retrieves is not what you expect.
Other reviewers wanted for more resolution and a happier ending, but I thought the ending was a strong point, and saw it as hopeful and positive.
