Fast and Effective Hair Removal,
This review is from: Philips Lumea Precision SC2002/01 IPL Hair Removal System with Facial Attachment (Personal Care)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I have tried a number of different hair removal products over the years and this is, so far, one of the best I have ever used.
* Starting Up
The Lumea arrives boxed with a charging cable, two different attachments (one for body, one for face) and a storage pouch. It also comes with a detailed instruction manual and DVD, which you can read/watch whilst waiting for the unit to charge for first use (which takes about 90 minutes). This also gives you the opportunity to prepare the test treatment area to ensure you use the correct intensity level for your skin and thus avoid any adverse reactions.
My skin is pale and I have dark hair, so I can use the unit at the highest light intensity levels. I tested 24 hours in advance of a main treatment and, whilst the instructions suggested I should test at the lowest recommended setting for my skin type (4 or 5 on a scale of 1-5), I chose to be more cautious (and cowardly, as I wished to carefully assess potential pain levels), starting out at level 1 and increasing gradually to 5. I experienced no skin reactions and no discomfort.
* Comfort and Ease of Use
The treatment area needs to be shaved to avoid discomfort from burning hair and, at the lowest levels, I couldn't feel a thing. At levels 4 and 5 there was still absolutely no pain or discomfort, all I could feel was some mild warmth on my skin immediately after the flash.
The Lumea is cordless and, whilst that means prior charging, you do not need to perform acrobatics to facilitate use, or position yourself close to a power point.
* Treatment Times
The revelation for me was the speed of use; one flash and you move onto the next area; whilst the treatment area is fairly small, this means you do not have to dedicate hours to the task at hand. I noticed hair fell out a couple of days after treatment, leaving smooth skin.
I have previously used a Rio Scanning Laser, which required an awful lot of time to treat a small area and, as it was also corded, it was awkward to use. I was also underwhelmed when it came to the results.
I have also regularly epilated, a method that offers even faster results and leaves the treated area instantly hair-free. There is some discomfort although this lessens with repeated use, but it is definitely more uncomfortable than the Lumea. As hair does not instantly fall out when using the Lumea, it is easy to miss some areas so I found results were patchy to start with but, as I use it more, I have developed a better method and thus am finding results are on a par with those of epilation - but without any pain.
* Preparation is the key and, other than slight warmth from time to time, I did not feel anything.
* Easy to use.
* Cordless, enabling treatment to be undertaken at a distance from a socket.
* Fast results.
* Cordless use, so you need to wait for the unit to charge.
* Small treatment area per flash.
The Lumea offers pain and discomfort-free hair removal with results that are on a par with those I achieved with epilation.
