Lame Found Footage.,

This review is from: A Night in the Woods [DVD] (DVD)
The core story does not hang together and nor does the second half of this derivative and un-scary Brit Horror. It's clear that the director is not a horror aficionado as the 'local warnings' only give rise to a lot of running about and shaky night cam. Logic is abandoned quickly and there simply are none of the incremental scares of Blair Witch - to which this owes a great debt. The trouble with 'found footage' films is that they spend far too much energy in figuring out how to do the multiple perspectives (which defy story logic) and trying to 'look gritty' (V/H/S you are also guilty) than in investing in sympathy for the characters. See my chapter on Blair Witch in my forthcoming 'Writing the Horror Movie for more. There's not a lot too this. A bunch of locals with spades should have put it out of its misery long before the closing credits. Could do better. Sorry.
