Use this if you want to upgrade the new slim 12gb PS3,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Sony PlayStation 3 Replacement Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Mounting Bracket (Accessory)
I have just used this mounting bracket to upgrade a PlayStation Slim 12gb console. I also bought a 2.5 inch 320gb SATA hard drive. The bracket is very easy to install and I had the hard drive fitted to the PlayStation in a matter of minutes. I saved a lot of money buying the 12gb PS3 and upgrading. The bracket is made by Sony and is good quality. It comes with instructions that are easy to understand. I would not hesitate to upgrade the 12gb PS3 if you need more memory, it is so quick and easy. I saved around £35 and the PS3 warranty is not affected by adding a hard drive.
I used this Hard Drive, also from Amazon - Western Digital Scorpio Blue 320GB 5400 RPM SATA Mobile Internal Hard Drive OEM (8 MB,2.5 inch,Sony Playstation PS3 Compatible)
I hope this review is of some use to you.

First of all very helpful review. Then i would need to upgrade a PS3 slim 12gb,do i need to buy both an hard drive(as the one you suggest) and a mounting bracket?

Yes, you need both the hard drive and mounting bracket. The whole process is very easy and the mounting bracket comes with easy to follow instructions. I am certainly glad that I decided to doit as I saved quite a bit of money. I hope this answers your questions and you're welcome.

Excellent review, hard drive you recommended was picked up immediately by PS3, this bracket/hard dive combination is so easy to install I would have no problem in recommending people thinking of buying the new super slim 12gb PS3 to install the hard drive, bracket themselves and save some money:)

Just to point out that this option is now obsolete if you're looking to buy an new PS3. You can buy the 500GB Slim PS3 now for £199 and the 12GB for £139. If you opted to upgrade the 12GB PS3, then by the time you've bought a 500GB drive - £40 and the caddy - £10, you're only saving £10. Add to this the fact that Argos is offering two free games with their £199 PS3 then it's no longer worth doing an upgrade. If you sold the two game for £20 you'd actually be better off buying the 500GB version. Thus, the only remaining advantage of buying the 12GB and upgrading is that you can spread the cost a bit by buying the 12GB version now and then paying to upgrade it at a later date.

Unfortunately just checked the argos offer seems to have expired now - as the cheapest 500gb version there is £249.99 incl 1 or 2 free games as of date of this post
some ppl might have a spare 2.5" HDD from an old laptop or maybe the HDD from the old broken down PS3 fat so hopefully HDD from there will work?
