This review is from: Captain Morgane and the Golden Turtle (PS3) (Video Game)
After reading the reviews on this game, I knew it was going to be similar to the classic witty and fun-loving 'Monkey Island'. Purchased this game a few days after it's release and was really looking forward to playing it, hoping it would be in the same class as 'Monkey Island'...least to say I am a little bit disappointed. To start off the storyline is very good, classic pirate adventure and the graphics are stunning to say the least...more anime like, but the characters in my opinion are a big let down. They don't excite you or make you laugh enough like the main character 'Guybrush Threepwood' did in 'Monkey Island', almost like the game is a bit more serious rather than fun. The game play for me was very difficult to grasp at times even though it's the exact same as 'Monkey Island', typical point and move controls but the real problem I had was trying to solve puzzles, examples like using and mixing items in your inventory to complete tasks. In 'Monkey Island' you pressed the 'select' button which gave you hints on what to do next if you were stuck at a certain point, which was a really big help. In this game it's completely different, you press the 'start' button for hints and instead you get small 'star' like symbols and arrows on certain objects in your surroundings which you are supposed to inspect...some objects being totally irrelevant to the cause. Game description says 12 hours of game time, I must have spent 6 hours on the first 2 chapters...all being trying to solve puzzles lol. So in my opinion, 'Captain Morgane and the Golden Turtle'is a good game with a great storyline and top quality graphics, only to be let down by frustrating puzzle solving game play and some boring characters. If you want to play this game, make sure you have a lot of patience first. |
