Glen Miller and ther band at their Zenith!,
This review is from: Orchestra Wives [DVD] (DVD)
I originally saw this on BBC TV, and no doubt they still dig it out every 2 or so years! Whilst it is not as good as Sun Valley Serenade in my view, this was made like the other as a vehicle to harness the very popular Glen Miller orchestra. It does just that with a couple of blow in actors and some trumpet playing the regular band could not come up with and doesn't feature on the CD of the film scores - the best there is of the Miller crew by the way.
Its great to see the band play and the digital clean up gives a more than perfect rendition excelling what our fathers would have originally seen in cinemas on it's original release.
The plot is thin but not unenjoyable and the music is good. Miller wasn't bad at playing himself - better than Artie Shaw was, more's the pity.
If you like forties comedies and the Miller band then you'll give it 5 stars if not then...Personally I intend to get Sun Valley Serenade also......Oh and that has the Clark Brothers on it as well.....
