As a starting point, brilliant,
This review is from: British Wildlife: A photographic guide to every common species (Collins Complete Guide) (Paperback)
I was given this book as a present recently. As a lover of nature, I do have a few books now on various elements of our English countryside - butterflies and moths, wild flowers, birds - and I love having them with me when I go off for walks so that I can identify things that I see along the way. Of course, the problem with that is that I am lugging around a small library! With the COLLINS COMPLETE GUIDE TO BRITISH WILDLIFE, I am able to take just one book out with me. Because of the protective cover and quality paper, it is also durable incase you are out in bad weather.
Of course, it is not exhaustive. If you want to know about the less common species, or more detail about even the basic species which you will find in this book, then you will have to get separate books specialising in that area as I have done.
But, for a strating point, and as a way to keep your library at home when you go out walking, this book is a must.
