5.0 out of 5 stars Caprica series 1, 9 Dec. 2011
By
This review is from: Caprica - Season 1, Volume 2 [DVD] (DVD)
Very interesting slow burn from BSG. Very intelligent series which tried to cover too much to slowly for the predictively programed blip vert generation.

That said Caprica should have built its foundations on the Adama v Graystone dynamic. There was much gold to be mined from Adama's relationship with his daughter Tamara but this was left to drift in a drug filled haze in contrast to Graystone's complex relationship with Zoe. This had more substance and looked a promising story line.

Equal weight should have been afforded to both fathers here in writing terms, so very short sighted. Both Tamara and Zoe looked promising seed for the Cylons birth but this was not exploited soon enough to hook the low core BSG drifter, because most Hard Core BSG's would have got it?

On the religous front I would say that this was an essential element as it ties in with that ever present thread in BSG. Having said that, Claris is no match or the enigmatic GB. CGI was not as crisp in places as BSG but set design first class.

You are left wondering what might have been and it would appear that it may have been too ambitious a step to take on SGU but worth a try. Sci Fi channel should have backed it, as it looked like it was turning a corner but I suspect just like Firefly it was getting too close to the bone for some, Westworld anyone?
