1.0 out of 5 stars Vinyl Quality Bad, 24 Jan 2014

Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Rave Tapes [VINYL] (Vinyl)
I am a massive Mogwai fan so pre-ordered the Vinyl of Rave Tapes. But the quality of the pressing is so bad! Numerous tracks skip constantly even though the vinyl is perfectly clean. I've got old knackered records that play better. Having to return it :(

I would return it, mine was one if the flattest and quietest for a long time. Magnificent album too.

I've got the same issue (got it from a record shop though). Returned it, and still have the same issue. No skips, but an awful lot of noise. I emailed Rock Action Records and they replied telling me they're using the same plant as previous records. Not sure what to do, except swapping it for a CD...

You could be suffering from a "dry" pressing, a disc that was pressed just before the mould was due to receive a new dose of MRA. Some of this MRA ends up on the record and acts as a lubricant. Without this you get a build up of static which eventually discharges and causes noise and, in the worst cases, actual jumps. So send it back and hope for a "wetter" copy. Or you could try lubricating it yourself. I think hifi shops might sell special lubricant. The reason I'm not sure is that I gave up on vinyl 20 years ago because of this very problem but only discovered the cause more recently.
