A new look at self help,
This review is from: Be Your Own Career Coach: The Toolkit You Need to Build the Career You Want (Paperback)
Russell Slater has created in in-depth but easily followed guide for those wishing to either embark in a new career or to change the path of their current career. It breaks down every aspect of what makes us who we are without losing sight of the bigger picture. The guide uses excellent, realistic examples and case studies to further reinforce the lessons.
The book goes on to encourage the reader to look at the different aspects of their lives from relationships and spirituality to the more commonplace likes and dislikes, always giving examples and explaining the relevance.
We explore not only the present and the future, but even look at future proofing our career and realizing that our new path may need to be redirected again. How to recognize this and when to re-evaluate are key parts as well as learning how to come to a work / home balance in order to maximize potential as well as satisfaction.
Being self employed I particularly enjoyed Chapter 13. Wage Slave Or Captain Of Your Own Destiny? I found it an honest, no nonsense approach to the realities of what it means to Be Your Own Boss, the good and the bad.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has reached a lull in their career, recently lost their job or feels that their position may no longer be secure.
