Some of Nancy's best,
This review is from: Shifting Gears (MP3 Download)
Many of us that are old enough remember Nancy Sinatra singing 'These Boots are Made For Walking', 'Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Dead', or her collaborative work with Lee Hazelwood singing 'Jackson' or 'Summer Wine', for example. However, Shifting Gears is for the most part a more mature sounding album, there are a few songs that have the familiar Nancy Sinatra sound to them, but for the most part Nancy has pulled together recording from what sound to be later in her career, where her voice has taken on a richer (albeit older) sound.
Released in December 2013, Shifting Gears is a collection of previously un-released works cobbled together from old tapes and masters that in some cases were quite literally found scattered around in boxes in her garage. You wouldn't know it from the sound though, a lot of effort has gone into cleaning up the recordings to create a wonderful album.
Highlights for me are 'Killing Me Softly With His Song', 'When I look In Your Eyes', 'Mac Arthur Park' with an energetic orchestral bridge and the wonderfully sentimental and moving 'The Hungry Years' originally penned and sung by Neil Sedaka. Add all the other tracks and you have a great collection of Nancy singing some of her best recordings.
