The original remastered album?,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Bad - 25th Anniversary Deluxe [3 CD/1 DVD] (Audio CD)
... Except it isn't, is it? Because this lavish 3 CD, 1 DVD box set with it's poster, sticker and 2 well produced books of photos STILL features the edited, intro-less version of the album's first single, I Just Can't Stop Loving You!
This was also included on the 2001 remaster of the album and proved to be an extremely unpopular decision so why do it again? Given the quality of this package perhaps I'm nitpicking, but the fact that so much time and attention has gone into the boxset just makes it worse. What a stupid thing to do. Again!
So, for all the bonus tracks, concert audio and video CD and DVDs, the album STILL isn't complete. Hang on to your 1987 Epic CD/LP of this. Still the only complete version of Bad.

The first thing i did when my set came today was check that too. I couldn't believe they made such a mistake. Also, Dirty Diana is the edited single version too. Ok, it's only about 11 seconds missing from the fade out but still unacceptable. Considering this is celebrating the ORIGINAL version from 1987, such mistakes are unforgivable.

It just makes you sick. There's really no need for such an error. If error it is. Like I said, the 2001 version's edit went down like a lead balloon so why repeat it. And I didn't even notice the Dirty Diana cut!
I was also annoyed by the lack of original artwork and by the omission of the singles videos. Yes, I know they're available elsewhere but it would have been nice to have them on here. All in all, the 2012 Bad is a bit of a dud.

I wouldn't call it a dud. For the first time we have the whole Bad Concert on DVD for the first time. Plus all the demos we've never had before. Sure, they have made some errors on the main disc, but the rest of the content makes up for it. I think the videos weren't really needed here. It would have made the set more expensive, and there are numerous DVDs out there with all his music videos on. The most recent, Vision, containing them all. Just my opinion.

Hi Bobby, I'm impressed by your knowledge and attention to detail! What I wonder is how the sound is different if any...basically, how does the remaster compare to the 1987 version...in your opinion of course.

It's brighter and louder sounding than the 1987 CD but not massively different to the 2001 remaster. Thing is, Bad was such a well produced and recorded album that any of the versions you choose will sound great.

Argh! You're right! I had a cassette copy of my friend's album back in the day. I ditched all my cassettes a long time ago and bought, what I guess must be the 2001 re-master (also has Streetwalker etc. And interviews with Quincy Jones)... Just looked up the original version of I Just Can't Stop Loving You and I remember that intro. Now I feel cheated! I wish I hadn't read your review because I'd forgotten all about it! Now I'm going to have to acquire the original album somehow!

Yes, it sounds like you have the 2001 edition. I don't want to dampen your day further but that version and the 2012 package both contain slightly edited versions of Smooth Criminal, Dirty Diana and The Way You Make Me Feel! As I said before Jackson must have approved these changes on the 2001 CD but that doesn't make it right...

Mr. R. G. Prizeman says:
agree with all you say, at this price at least we could have had the original version back. Also wish Sony would stop saying the original remastered when it is so not. The Way you make me feel is also a different version they have made the vocals more up front in the mix. Why alter something that never needed altering it i beyond me.

Its a shame but they did rerelease "I Just Can't Stop Lovin' You" as single in June this year and that is the full version with the spoken intro. You can buy it here on amazon

So I'm guessing it was done on purpose to get people to buy the cd single? I have the original bad cd from 1987 so never bothered with the new single.
