This review is from: The Ultimate Book of Heroic Failures (Hardcover)I remember the first book in this series (The Book of Heroic Failures: The Official Handbook of the Not Terribly Good Club of Great Britain) appearing in the house when I was a child, and my father laughing loudly as he read the stories within. A few years later a second book appeared (The Return of Heroic Failures) and the wonderful scene was repeated. Eventually the books were passed on to me, and I too loved them. Since then I've found myself repeating the stories in conversation, dozens remembered in detail, and the books sit proudly on my shelves, often returned to.
For some reason I found this new collection rather disappointing. It is good for dipping into during idle moments, or on short journeys, but unlike its predecessors I only found three or four stories had me in stitches and prompted me to read them to people around me, particularly the story about the policeman in disguise. It's all good, clean fun, and suitable for all ages, but sadly I just didn't find this batch of failures anywhere near as amusing as those from the previous books.
