I've been trying to work out why I felt so differently about this from the other reviewers and have come to the conclusion that it's because I had such high expectations. I've enjoyed a number of Dawn Porter's documentaries and always found her quite charismatic so I was really looking forward to this book.
When she was being interviewed about this book, I have heard Porter say that she was inspired and got a great deal of influence from her teenage diaries; and boy can you tell! Dreary teenage angst and moaning, obsession over what clothes you should be wearing and how much you fancy your mate's brother? I've lived through all that once, I certainly didn't want to have to do it again!
If you're a teenager, I imagine you will love this book because you'll think it's talking directly to you, but if you're an adult you might find you're cringing all the way through it, just like I was!
