My favourite version of the Moses story,
This review is from: The Ten Commandments [DVD] (DVD)
This has been slated by many reviewers, although amazon customers seem much more appreciative! Personally, this is my favourite version of the Moses story. It is less dated, slow and long than the Cecil B. DeMille opus. I also prefer it to DreamWorks' "Prince of Egypt" because I prefer this animation style and I'm not such a fan of animated musicals. It also encompasses a fuller story, including the desert wanderings.
Contrary to what many claim, 3D animation of this quality, whilst far from that produced in big budget features, could never have been made prior to the "naughties". For low budget animation this beats the likes of Tony Luke Jr.'s "Dominator" (another great film!). The backdrops in particular are lush. The story moves a good pace with enjoyable dialogue, angled I believe towards younger viewers. The voice actors are well known (presumably this is where the biggest slice of money went!)
Of course, some people will quibble over any departure from the Biblical text but this is generally very faithful and those people best stick with reading the Bible!
What ever happened to the planned series of films like this?! It would have been great to have other, less often interpreted, Bible stories in this style.
