3.0 out of 5 stars Abba's back catalouge-once again., 12 Sept. 2012
This review is from: The Essential Collection (Audio CD)
Most people love abba, most people can name a song or three,do we want another greatest hits package? No.Abba gold has everything a fan would want-if its hits they are after, its been repackaged loads of times with the same songs/some have a dvd included. So why buy this?its selling very poorly-abba gold sold 27 million worldwide. This is just a record company rip off of the abba cash cow, unfortunatly abba can not stop these greatest hits from reappearing every year or so-the back catalouge was bought out in the early 90's.Abba's music legacy will live on through the original albums, abba gold and much radio play, this package will not be remembered.

J. Hughes says:
'Gold' has sold a lot more than 27 Million. It had sold over 28 Million by 2005, &
it has carried on selling ever since, with almost 2 Million in 2008, alone. Its Global
sales are more like 31 Million to 32 Million, by now.
In the latest UK Top 200, (W/E 15th September), 'Gold is at No.160, & '18 Hits'
is at No.140. They have sold over 5 Millon, & over 350,000, respectively, in
the UK. 'The Essential Collection' failed to even reach No.200, in the same
Chart, & that was a 'new' release. It failed to make the Top 200, despite
the sales of the 2 CD + DVD, & 2 CD, versions being combined, for Chart
purposes. So, it is a huge flop. Universal made zero effort to promote it,
& most of 'The Fans', are refusing to buy it, as there is nothing on it that
they don't already have.

Fabio Deluca says:
Maybe you all should understand the target of this release is not "The Fans" but the general public. The fans have all the songs already, and don't need every compilation if they don't want to. Gold was nice at the time of release, but it looks dated now (it always had a horrible, dark and impersonal front cover). This one has a nicer picture and more songs in chronological order, which is a plus. Of course Gold has sold more: it has been released 22 years ago, went to multiple reincarnations and re-releases and coincided with the ABBA-revival of the early 90s. It sold millions, what else did you expect? Stop moaning, please. If you don't like, don't buy. As simple as that.
