Visual treat for the Mind and Heart.,
This review is from: Debussy - Entre Quatre-Z-Yeux (Barenboim) [DVD] (DVD)
Since Classical music is first and foremost an aural Art I often find Classsical dvd's a bit boring.
Despite my deep passion for Classical Music I must admit that whatching a person dressed in black and white sitting in front of a black and white keyboard is not much of a visual treat.
But this DVD is certainly different, here Daniel Barenboim, one of the all time great pianist, plays the first volume of Debussy's preludes for piano.
But what is also presented is an interview vith Barenboim about the music, old photographs of Debussy and others related to him, beautifuly film scenes of Nature and Architecture and some short dance sequences. Then there are quotes from Debussy and other composers and poets all related to this work and Debussy's music in general.
So what you get is a good performance of the work and also a good understanding of the work itself and what influenced it and how Debussy approached Composing Music.
So in short, Great Music, beautiful Architecture and Nature scenes and insightful comentary about the Music and it's influences.
