wonderful machine - but nintendo really dropped a b**lock
, 13 Feb. 2013
This review is from: Nintendo Handheld Console 3DS XL - White Limited Edition with Mario Kart 7 (Nintendo 3DS) (Video Game)
It's likely you already know this, but Nintendo do not include a power adapter. However, they do not even include a basic USB cable (a USB cable allows charging). This is ridiculous.
OK, the AC adapter may have increased production costs. But adding a basic USB cable cannot possibly increase production costs more than 50 pence / cents. The earlier Mario Land bundles shipped with Mario Land in fully boxed cartridge form, but now it is included on the SD card. So... the money Nintendo saved by not supplying the game cartridge, instruction manual, box, and interior packaging must surely have saved them enough money to include a USB cable / AC adapter?
Nintendo puts the responsibility on the consumer "you should read the box" but this is ignorant and irresponsible. They are not idiots, and I do not believe that they expect more than 70% of consumers to realise, or even look for something as unpredictable as a missing AC adapter. Who would even take the time to look for something like this... it is a sneaky little land mine, and Nintendo is responsible for it.
This is a hot toy for children, and I expect that there have been some very upset kids out there who's new toy stops working after the initial 30 minute charge is gone and no AC adapter can be found. It's really unfair and thoughtless of Nintendo... This is CHILDREN we are talking about.
Nintendo needs to wake up! This is a slap in the face for any consumer, observant or otherwise.
On the 3D.. It's great, but in practice somewhat annoying. The viewing angle is very fussy, and requires the user to remain very stable while playing. Of course, in reality, this is not possible. Try a tense boss battle in Mario Land 3D without moving your viewing angle... It's not possible!
On a side note: I would like to see an optional-mode, where you can wear 3D glasses thereby causing less distortion when moving the unit around. And, of course, while on the street you can use the regular 3D mode.
